I purchased these headphones in June 2020 to use for my first (now cancelled 😩) half marathon and ongoing training. These have been awesome to listen to music and audio books while I run outdoors. I feel much safer and more aware of my surroundings than my previous ‘in ear’ headphones. Game changer for running and cycling safety!
I only use my in ears now at the gym. The challenge there is that the music they play overhead comes into your ear canal while this music comes in through you cheekbone. However, I could use their included earplugs to silence that piece, but since I already have a pair of Bluetooth in-ears, I just use those. Personal preference for me but if I didn’t have the extra pair, I could easily do that too. Cool that they thought that out and included them.
Overall, these have been great for me and I’m couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend. Now here is what made me a Gorilla Audio fan for life. I had an issue with these headphones this week (which was entirely my fault btw). I reached out to their customer service, just to see how it went. I was planning to purchase a new pair anyway. Well, I quickly received a reply from their customer care team, they understood my situation, and went ABOVE AND BEYOND to take care of me. The warranty process was super simple and they exceeded my expectations.. by FAR! It was really a great experience and I would recommend this product and company to anyone.
First and foremost...this is NOT a pair of earbuds or over the ear headphones or insert into your ears. If you are expecting the same quality of sound from this headset as those...then you need to do some research first.
Bone conduction earphones are great for those people with some very specific technology needs. First, bone conduction is great for people that have suffered hearing loss or are currently wearing hearing aids. If you want to know the science behind that, then do the research.
If you are a general user looking to be spatially aware while working out, then these may work for you; BUT don't expect the sound quality to be that of a set of ear buds or cans. As for my review, I will focus on sound quality (specific to bone conduction), fit, durability and battery life.
Sound Quality - The sound is crisp and clear, but because you are not IN your ear, you are going to lose bass and mid-range sounds. You can hear everything around you, which is nice.
Fit - the fit on this headset is great. Lightweight and never moved around while I was doing things. I used them around the house to cook, clean and run around the garage a few times. I didn't have any issues with the headset shifting or slipping down my head. They have a nice silicon/rubber pad that will surely stick to the side of your head if it gets wet with sweat. You may need to adjust the fit to get the sound just right as I did. For the first day I was wearing them too low, but after adjustments the sound quality was better. NOTE...these vibrate on your head at full volume and it takes some getting used to, but that is what the tech is supposed to do.
Durability - this headset if VERY flexible and light. They do twist up, but I didn't try to tie them in a knot. Probably not a good idea. I'm sure you could drop them too and they would be fine. They feel very light, but well designed.
Battery Life - I charged my headset for 6 hours when they arrived and wore them off and on over the weekend during my testing. I also had two conference calls, each lasting 1hr. In between calls, I was listening to music and my phone said I still had plenty of battery life left in the headset.
Conclusion - this headset is a good option for anyone who isn't an audiophile, but wants to be safe while exercising or out in public. In addition, this set is really good for anyone who has hearing loss or wears hearing aids. If you're looking for the same quality of sound from in-ear buds or over-ear cans, then keep looking. These are not what you need or want.
With the pandemic I found myself 4 hours plus on the phone everyday and my ears could not take it anymore. There seemed to be something with the heat and my ears... and some sort of inner swimmer's ear like condition that developed.
While wearing these it is much easier to wear a mask (straps go over it, less fatigue on back of your ears). They are equally as comfortable as wearing glasses on the ears. These are more comfortable than headphones hanging over your ears and you can still hear things going on around you.
I rode yesterday with the headphones. I definitely like them. It’s safer for sure than what I was using. It’s a different experience using them versus my ear pods. I feel so much safer being on the road, being able to hear cars or other cyclist come up on me. The best part is being able to listen to training playlist and still being aware of other noises around me.
Really good sound even for this hard of hearing ol' gal. Easy to use. Very happy with my purchase.
